History

CVOEO assumed operations of the Champlain Place Emergency Shelter on October 2, 2023. Guests who were staying at the Champlain Place at the time and all future guests were invited to stay for as long as necessary while continuing to work on their housing plan.

CVOEO did not accept new referrals until renovations improved the building’s safety, comfort, and security. CVOEO staff reached out to our partners when there was availability at the Champlain Place and priority was given to community members who were unsheltered. In the meantime, we continued to provide meals to shelter guests each day through our Feeding Chittenden program, while delivering comprehensive care coordination and access to CVOEO programs and community services.

We were thrilled to welcome back former Champlain Place staff members to work alongside newly hired team members. Together, we worked in an integrated and holistic way to ensure that the Champlain Place remained a critical community asset for our neighbors in need.
