Do you want to work for an Agency that positively impacts the lives of over 20,000 individuals? CVOEO  has an exciting opportunity to help individuals who are most in need.  We are currently running one of the largest homeless shelters in the State of Vermont at the Holiday Inn in South Burlington.  Currently we have 136 guests and an amazing team of people working with them to find housing, employment and other social and health supports.   The Hotel Housing Advocate will assist individuals who are experiencing homelessness and who have low income to find or maintain suitable housing, including advocating for clients with local social service agencies organizations, landlords, and funding sources.  Overnight week and weekend hours may be required. 

 

Successful applicants will have a Bachelor degree in an appropriate discipline plus two years of community service experience or a combination of education and experience from which comparable skills and knowledge are acquired; the ability to work with diverse populations; and excellent verbal and communication skills, bilingual abilities are a plus. Mental Health Counselor

 

 

The Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity’s (CVOEO) Homeless Housing Assistance Program seeks an experienced, energetic, and committed individual with a high degree of initiative to join our team as a Mental Health Counselor. 

The shelter-based mental health counselor will serve as a short-term counselor and referral point for people experiencing homelessness, currently housed in emergency shelter. They will offer de-escalation and limited ongoing therapy to guests at the hotel. This individual would need to have a functional understanding of trauma-informed care and the cycles of substance use disorders. Successful applicants will have a Master degree in Mental Health or Social Work; and will be registered with the Vermont Office of Professional Regulation -- license preferred buy not required.  Experience working with crisis; strong verbal and written communication skills; bilingual abilities are a plus; and the ability to interact effectively and in a positive manner with a diverse population.
