Here is an excerpt:
The Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity (CVOEO) runs a daytime warming shelter out of the VFW located on 176 S Winooski Ave. in Burlington. Staff there say their guest intake has almost tripled since last year.
Last winter, CVOEO saw an average of about 25 people use the shelter each day. This winter, that number is up to about 60 to 75 people.“Hotel capacity hasn’t risen from last year it’s only gotten smaller, so folks are still unhoused or marginally housed, and folks need a place to come to during the day,” explained Abbey Jermyn, who works for the Community Resource Center at CVOEO.
