"I wanted to find the best way to extend that support over time, and after some research, I decided a Charitable Gift Annuity would be the best vehicle for my family. There are many ways to leave a legacy gift, and I hope you will join me in supporting CVOEO for years to come!

Jon Crystal, Vergennes resident and member of CVOEO’s Board of Directors since 2011, recently made a legacy gift to CVOEO.

We spoke with Jon to learn more about his dedicated support of our mission:

What inspires you to support CVOEO?

“While there are many other agencies which do similar work in Vermont, CVOEO is unique in the breadth and depth of the services it offers, building a synergy between programs to make the whole stronger than its separate parts. I am honored to be able to assist in its work.”

What does community mean to you?

“For me, family is paramount. I think of community as an extension of family in different dimensions: local, state, national, worldwide - ideally, we would all interact and care for one another as family.”

What makes CVOEO unique and why should the community support our work?

“As I observed, CVOEO combines its various parts into an integrated whole which is able to serve our community in special ways. While all programs excel, I especially value its work on Financial Futures and with New Americans and would hope the broader community would appreciate and support these and all the programs. ”

Why did you decide to leave a Legacy Gift to CVOEO?

“I have been a vocal advocate for CVOEO since I joined the Board of Directors in 2011, and I continue to be impressed by the scope, scale, and depth of commitment of CVOEO and its staff to their mission in our community. I support CVOEO annually through my volunteer work and donations. I wanted to find the best way to extend that support over time, and after some research, I decided a Charitable Gift Annuity would be the best vehicle for my family. There are many ways to leave a legacy gift, and I hope you will join me in supporting CVOEO for years to come!”

One sentence in your will or a meeting with your Financial Advisor can make a big difference! To leave a gift to CVOEO, consider using the following language in your will. “I give and bequeath unto CVOEO, tax ID #03-0216837, ___% of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate to be used for general charitable purposes.”

CVOEO has also partnered with the Vermont Community Foundation to offer Charitable Gift Annuities, along with Charitable Remainder Trusts and Charitable Lead Trusts. This partnership offers ways to give through your will, living trust, retirement plans, and other mechanisms that may provide fixed income back to you or a loved one for life.
