SAINT ALBANS CITY, Vt. —

In St. Albans City dozens gathered Saturday for their annual "In Their Shoes" event to raise awareness for the unhoused.

The event consisted of community leaders and those with lived experience raising awareness of what the unhoused go through and ways people can help.

Following the information session, participants took to the streets of downtown walking as a group to get their message across. Those involved said it's always heartwarming to see the Franklin and Grand Isle communities come together to help those in need.

"As an organization we don't feel alone in this work. It's really critical for the people who we serve; it's the same thing with people setting up to notice who other people are and what their going through is just absolutely critical," said Paul Dragon, the executive director of Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity.

Flags were also planted throughout Taylor Park in honor of all of those struggling and without a home.
