PROTECTED CLASSES UNDER FEDERAL AND VERMONT FAIR HOUSING LAWS:

Federal - The Federal Fair Housing Law is contained in Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act as amended. It states that it is illegal to discriminate in the rental, sale or financing of housing for of any of the following reasons:

 

Vermont - Vermont fair housing law covers all the categories covered by Federal Law, plus the following:

  • Race
  • Color
  • National Origin
  • Religion
  • Sex
  • Family Status
  • Disability
 
  • Age
  • Marital Status
  • Sexual Orientation
  • Receipt of Public Assistance
  • Gender Identity
  • Denial of Development Permitting Based on Income of Prospective Residents
