Dozens of University of Vermont students participated in “Together Vermont” on Sunday, a day UVM created that’s dedicated to volunteering in the Burlington community and building connections.

“I think this event is just really unique because it’s going to allow Burlington to really come together as one and I think that’s something that makes the companies and universities so happy to be here,” UVM student Evan Siegel said.

College students stopped by the Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity to help clean up the space and assist with folding laundry.

There were 15 volunteer projects throughout Burlington, including picking up trash at North Beach and helping CVOEO.

Organizers say 70 people showed up for the day shifts, and groups worked on various projects throughout the day.

Cleaning up North Beach is typically the role of Burlington Parks and Rec, but students say UVM’s Student Government Association inspired the event.

“I think just seeing an opportunity like this and we have the opportunity to get around to many places in Burlington not just North Beach,” UVM student Amblen Isenhower said.

Isenhower volunteered as a part of SGA, but he says he wouldn’t mind volunteering again on his own time.
